Choosing The Right Supplements

Print

Americans are always looking for the fastest way to get from point A to point B. So it is no surprise that they are constantly falling for schemes that offer incredible results in short periods of time. A lot of these schemes dip in on the emotional susceptibility of people by offering miracles pills that will solve all their problems and get them the perfect bodies, but do any of them really work?

Well, as you might have guessed, the truth is that there are no miracle pills that will make you look like a fitness model. The truth is that most muscle men at the gym who look like beasts are beast because of steroids. And the truth is that those sculpted models you see in fitness magazines are usually photo shopped to look like Greek Gods and Goddesses.

This is all done to get an emotional rise out of you as it has been proven that we make hasty decisions when we are emotional. So whenever you see ads or commercials telling you to take their stuff in order to get in shape, you should take a second and look into what you are actually buying.

Supplements for the most part are exactly what they sound like. They are supposed to compliment your nutritional needs and not replace them. So when choosing your supplements, use them as a way to enhance your fitness goals and not as a means to take you to your fitness goals. Like I have said many times before, there is no substitute to hard work and a healthy diet. You might get some quick results in the short term, but in the long term you and your body will suffer. So it is best to stick to healthy practices when trying to get in shape.

With that being said, supplements can help you get to your goal. Here is a list of supplements I recommend:

Protein Powder: The number one supplement for your fitness needs. Protein is the building block for muscle growth. You should consume somewhere between 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. The best times to consume a protein shake is immediately before and/or after your workouts, and it is wise not to consume more that 3 protein shakes per day as they contain a lot of cholesterol.

Also it is best to stay away from the weight gainer stuff as they usually have a lot of bad stuff in them including lots of saturated fats, cholesterol, and sugar which is no good. Consuming them is like consuming a bunch of doughnuts!

When choosing protein, it is best to sick with regular protein powders. My favorite protein supplement is Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein Gold Standard. It has a good blend of ingredients and is cheap. You can purchase a container of this powder here.

Creatine: Creatine is my second most important supplement. Yourbody naturally produces creatine within your liver, pancreas, and kidneys. This creatine is then used by your muscles as an energy source which allows you to bust out intense workouts. Creatine is a great energy booster and is best when consumed immediately before a workout as well as for recovery purposes after a workout. You can purchase some high quality creatine here.

Multi-Vitamins: Most of us do not consume enough vegetables and fruits to get a healthy dose of essential vitamins and nutrients. This is why multi-vitamins are important as they can make up for the lack of vitamins that you get from your daily food intakes. Plus your body can never have enough vitamins in its system. It is best to take these vitamins early in the morning and you can double or triple the amount on intense workout days. You can purchase a bottle of multivitamins here.

Fish Oil: This is one of my favorites. Fish oil is known to be rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids which helps reduce cholesterol which promotes a healthy heart. It also known to help reduce the chances of cancer and arthritis, while also helping with weight loss. Overall it is a great supplement for a healthy body. You can purchase a bottle for cheap here.

My Take

Above is a list of supplements that I recommend. They are all inexpensive and proven to be very beneficial. There is no need to spend 100s of dollars on supplements claiming to get you in shape because nothing works that way. Just stay a healthy course and you will see much more promising results.

With that being said, there are other supplements out there (that I haven’t mentioned) that can help you and if you do wish to try them out, then go right ahead. Just make sure to read their ingredients and do your research before committing to anything. Good Luck and Happy Living!
